Double W Ranch is located in the Panhandle of Texas about 50 miles north of
Amarillo and is owned by Charlotte & Steve Williams. Because of our limited
acreage and desire for high quality, naturally fed beef, in 1999 we chose to
replace our herd of mixed, standard-sized cattle with Miniature Herefords. We
doubled the size of our herd and have enjoyed the ease of handling and gentle
temperament that is characteristic of the breed. They are like big pets while
retaining their usefulness as a beef animal.
We never planned to show our cattle, but in 2005 were lucky enough to buy our
herd bull, KAP Silver Sampson or “Sam”. We needed a new bull and Sam’s great
genetics were obvious. Over the next two years he won Grand Champion at all the
shows he entered and has a record that may never be broken. Now he is out
working in the pasture, so watch for his calves in the coming years! The
Miniature Herefords have proven to be wonderful in the show ring—easy to train,
a pleasure to show, and a great option for either the kids or others who just
enjoy sharing their animals.
